It is a matter of worship & priority. During a time of spiritual renewal in Israel, the prophet Malachi wrote to the people about God’s everlasting promise regarding their giving. In chapter 3, verses 10-12 he says: "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord God Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not lose their fruit, says the Lord God Almighty. Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land, says the Lord God Almighty."
Simply put, we give because we believe that everything belongs to God, including the money we earn and have in our possession. Mankind has never had a problem spending money on that which we love, and we want our finances to willingly reflect our submission to Jesus. (Psalm 24:1).
Obedience still matters. Here at Home Church we are committed to obedience to God in all things. Obedience will always require sacrifice. But, it always leads to blessing, not only for us, but for our community and even our world. When you give your tithe (1/10 of any gain you receive), you are allowing God to open the floodgates of blessing in your life and our church to be a delightful place that blesses others.
